Visualization of the History of Philosophy based on Wikipedia data. There are a number of interesting dimensions of this visualization, but I only point to two surprises.
First, Plato is smaller and less central than I would have predicted, although Aristotle’s influence on a wide diversity of thinking makes it understandable that he is so large and central.
Second, Descartes is much smaller and more peripheral than I would have expected.
In any case, this visualization is fascinating and illuminating. Visit Drunks and Lamposts for more analysis.
